Sarkozy is fond of switching from error to errors. Remember the Tunisian unrest which is not resolved so far, when the french government was singing the same old refrain of "no one had seen events coming". And a couple of weeks later, the wary dwarf decided unilaterally to invite himself in the Libyan "revolution", knowing nothing about the Libyan society and cultural background [each "antagonist" camp has as much traitors as loyal people in its rank] ,short-circuiting the "natural" former colonial power, Italy and italian significant investments over there. Rather scary point. Does it mean all the millions of euros the french national budget allocated to intelligence abroad, have been wasted in vain? No! Sarkozy's crew was and remains so self-confident about its pretty rough knowledge of the global environment, is so sure that if some unexpected events happened, a short-term fix would be applied quickly! Like sending french police instructors in Tunisia to "contain demonstrations" within a "correct republican framework".
That won't prevent the french government from fueling if not triggering wars here and there, without the means to bring them to a successful end, nor any holistic view, relying as usual, on Uncle Sam's help whenever things go wrong. And things did go wrong. Libya IS V example of a french adventurous trend to use old-fashioned, completely obsolete ways to impose herself in "small" countries, with great expectancy. Definitely a futile effort.
While I am writing down this post, the day after german merkel and sarkozy's meeting, the Financial Times rather talks about the News of the World's phone hacking scandal than about the outcome of that summit some french journalist qualified as "que du vent" i.e. NOTHING... If you do not have fast fixes for small issues [monitoring pupils' demonstrations], how could you find decent solutions to a continental problem? You're definitely NOT UP TO THE JOB! Period. But, but there's still a very positive perspective behind gueant's proposal. When his predecessor, named alliot-marie, made the same proposition to tunisian Ben Ali, this latter was deposed. We hope cameron will follow the same path. Really.
